I got text with link saying research indicates security breach advised to scan by using link within text ...i thought apple did not have these issues?

What you got was more than likely a scam. Apple does not send such messages nor do they call. You as a user find out if you are compromised on your own and contact them for support. They will NEVER actively call you and claim there is a security breach.
