FaceTime verification failed to activate

I am setting up

mt new 2nd gen iPad. When i type in my email and password , it tells me my FaceTime verification failed. Why is it saying that?

facetime after updated my phone to ios15, facetimes and imessage stopped working. they keep saying that my phone number is verifying but never get verified. whenever i get facetime calls, it will only ring on my ipad (6th gen, ios 14.8)
