Easy fix go to shortcuts app!
go to automation bottom of screen middle button
create a personal automation for a specific time ie of day 1 min after sleep time.
have automation remove DND. (You will have to type DND in the search bar)
*** very importantly remove flag to ask!
cheers

As a workaround, with an Apple Watch download “AutoSleep” which tracks sleep automatically, and then turn on “theater mode” on the watch to make the screen blank. Your sleep data will then sync with Apple Health and you will be able to receive vibration notifications during the night as long as you have “vibrate on silent” turned on.
I had the same issue. Wanted to track sleep, but needed notifications from the baby monitor. I bypassed the issue by creating a do-not-disturb schedule (in settings > do not disturb) that started 1 minute after my “bedtime”, and lasted for 1 minute. So for me, DND would kick on at 11pm with my bedtime scheduler, run for 1 minute, and automatically turn itself back off at 11:01. Worked like a charm.
I got around this by leaving dnd on but changing the dnd settings to allow calls from everyone. Hope this helps!
I have turned on theater mode for the screen to stay dark. I sometimes forget to switch it of again, and found "oh boy does the battery last much longer now! so might just use it permanently (or most the time)
I can sleep track without getting a blinding light every time I turn around, and want it all black unless I touch it.

This is a dumb limitation though. I want to track my sleep health, but I also have a senior level IT job at a large global company where maybe once a month on average I get called during my sleeping hours to handle an issue escalation. I can’t predict when this will occur, nor can I account for every manager, teammate, lower level IT staff, or automated system notification that might contact me. So, I *can’t* have DnD enabled. And it’s lousy that as a result of my job requirements, Apple won’t allow me to track sleep.
I completely understand that DnD helps foster healthier sleeping. But there’s no legitimate reason for it to be mandatorily coupled with sleep tracking. A simple recommendation/warning regarding the benefits of DnD on sleep health would be sufficient.
I just turned it of, cause it bothered me too much...
I don't want the "do not disturb"
I want the darker screen (especially on the watch), tracking, but nothing else. I don't want ANY restrictions put on top, why is this not optional?!
i’m having the absolute worst time with this feature. It used to track my sleep without me having to enable do not disturb and an alarm, This is restrictive and the feature no longer works for my use case anymore, I go to sleep at different times and I want the notifications to come, This update invalidated my Apple Watch purchase
I feel the same way. I just paid $400 for a watch specifically for sleep and exercise but now I can’t use the sleep tracking because of do not disturb. I don’t understand how there are 5 million settings and that’s not one. I need to get notifications from my cameras if someone’s trying to break in my house but no let them be silenced so I can have an uninterrupted night sleep. It’s crazy.
thats the only thing it allows is for calls. Any notifications from other apps do not work and that’s the problem. Security systems need to send notifications to alert when something sets it off. Other people have said the same about work messages.
Some apps have an ‘Allow Critical Alerts’ setting in their Settings -> Notifications page, which means alerts appear on the Lock screen and play a sound even if Do Not Disturb is on. This has been a great comfort for the PagerDuty app as it means I can still put my Watch into Sleep mode when I’m on call and know I’ll receive alerts if I’m needed.
This doesn’t work. When you set that automation it turns the sleep setting off as well. I tried for 3 days and it keeps them together. It would have been nice if it worked but it doesn’t.
Settings for Do Not Disturb apply when iPhone is in Sleep Mode. You can change these settings; for example, you can allow calls from selected contacts to come through. See Set Do Not Disturb on iPhone.
That doesn’t work - my allowed calls do not come through while in sleep mode. This is so frustrating
