If you're getting that error while updating your device via iTunes on a computer, try this workaround:
When finished, re-enable your passcode on your iPhone.

I got this error code when trying to update my iPhone. The workaround of turning off the passcode to update then turning it back on worked just fine. I was worried that my USB ports were naff. All good now. Thank you.
Agreed. Often workarounds have their pros and cons. They are not "the solution".
They allow you to continue working (especially in moments of panic when performing "delicate" procedures such as updating a device). In certain situations I believe it is necessary to make choices: what do I do? Do I stay crying, or do I try to overcome the obstacle, aware of the side effects I can cause?
In this case we, just users like you, can't do much other than suggest you to submit your request/comment to Apple directly using this link:--> Apple – Product Feedback
I think it's the most effective way to notify Apple of problems, and the more we write, the more we can make it clear that the problem needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
Have a nice day.

iTunes does not load on the iPhone. It is already part of the iOS. If you attempted to load iTunes to your computer and received a 4000 error, that is something completely different, and I've never seen that before. I'm assuming that you are using a Windows 10 computer. If so, remove iTunes from the computer, Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support then go to www.apple.com/itunes/download and download iTunes from there, not using the Microsoft link. While that should fix your computer issue, you will need to explain more if you are having issues with iTunes on the phone, unless you mean what other posters here are referring to regarding upgrading your iPhone.
My pleasure :)
I think Apple engeneers are now aware of this issue, and I believe they are already working on it (iTunes? iOS update file?). But, to be frank, I'm not so tech savvy to pinpoint the culprit.

This issue has been ongoing for a couple of months now. Been trying to update to 14.3 but keep getting the error code. From past experience I know to disable passcode and facial recognition. This has worked. Unfortunately that isn't the case this time around.
Anyone else have a fix?
Edit/Update: Thought in turning off facial recognition that disabled the passcode function. Upon further look I see that it didn't.
Thanks for posting the solution to the problem. I knew there was something I was missing but couldn't quite put my finger on it.
worked thanks! Apple support did not know this.
You are welcome
Giulio
Yes this absolutely worked! Many thanks.
My support knew of this method, you probably had a new support advisor
This is not really a great work around though, as Apple Pay is disabled and then needs setting up again, as does security etc.... needs a proper fix given that this work around.... works !
Totally agree and I'll do that - new to this forum, and it's been very helpful, thanks again.
You would have thought Apple would fix this by now as a known bug. I've reported back to Apple as Giulio instructed me to in the earlier posts, would others please do the same.
And thanks again to Giulio
This worked - disabling the passcode, for both an iPad and iPhone
Problem is the issues that causes with Apple pay etc....
Any proper fix from Apple ?
