Adding a telephone extension to an iPhone contact is clear. But the same process does not work for adding an extension number to contacts in iPad. Can you please detail me the steps for the iPad?

Yes. That comma pauses for some fixed interval (2 seconds, I think). It acts the same as “pause” on an iPhone. But perhaps 2 seconds isn’t long enough, as the interval starts when the dialing completes before the ringing starts. So more than one comma may be needed. But this works the same as pause on iPhone.

I am not actually making a call. But how to type it in the Contacts app in my iPad. So do you mean exactly like this (123) 456-7890,18606, i.e., no space before or after the comma. In my example, 18606 is the extension number.
