Battery Life of NEW Macbook Pro only 2-3 hours??!?

I have a brand new Macbook Pro that is only giving me 2-3 hours of battery life. I have done everything I know to do to extend the life of the battery to no avail. I have reset the battery, cycled it to zero and back again, disabled bluetooth, and more with no improvement. If the machine just sits with no activity, internet and wifi off, I will get 3 hours. Any suggestions before it goes back to Apple for a new one? The activity monitor shows Chrome, Finder, Activity Monitor and Time Machine only using energy. What gives?

Chrome is a known battery drainer on both Mac and Windows notebooks.

You can try an SMC reset, making certain you use the instructions for a Mac with the T2 Security chip:

How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

but that can't fix Chrome's greedy nature.

Also check the "CPU" and "Memory" tabs to see if you have anti-virus or "cleaning" software installed. They also reduce battery charge faster.

Thanks for the response. I have done the SMC reset twice already and I don't have anything loaded on this new machine yet, except for MS Office and Zoom. I think I might have gotten a lemon! I have no choice regarding Chrome. I am an edtech trainer and many of the programs I teach have Chrome as the preferred browser and are not supported by Safari. This is so frustrating. I have never had an issue with any of my Apple products before. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
