Apparently, the update had to be replaced. You might try Download and Install the macOS Catalina 10.15.7 Combo Update. See if this new one helps. I've installed it on three Catalina systems, and it has been no problem. I suggest you be sure your drive is repaired first by doing the following:

Repair the Drive for El Capitan or Later

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately, at or before the chime, hold down the Command and R keys until the Apple logo and progress bar appear. Wait until the Utility Menu appears.
  2. Select Disk Utility and press the Continue button.
  3. Then select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the side list.
  4. Click on the First Aid button in the toolbar and wait for the Done button to activate. Click on it, then quit Disk Utility.
  5. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Since up grading last week to Catalina 10.15.7 both my MacBook Pro & my fifes are running very slow. Slow to open, slow to load all applications especially Mail & Safari. I've also noticed that a lot of YouTube videos no longer open & getting this message;

"An error occurred. Please try again later. (Playback ID: lbWcAiYySoCFHY9Z)".

Any suggestions on what to do?

A Troubleshooting Procedure that may Fix Problems with macOS El Capitan or Later

You should try each, one at a time, then test to see if the problem is fixed before going on to the next.

If possible, backup your files before proceeding.

  1. Shutdown the computer and disconnect all third-party peripherals.
  2. Wait 30 seconds before you restart the computer.
  3. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
  4. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)
  5. Reset your Startup Disk and Sound preferences, if needed, after resetting the PRAM.
  6. Test in safe mode to see if the problem persists, then restart normally. See How  to  use  safe  mode  on  your  Mac.
  7. Repair the disk by booting from the Recovery HD. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears. Choose Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the side list.  Click on the First Aid button in the toolbar. Wait for the Done button to appear. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu. Restart the computer from the Apple Menu.
  8. Create a New User Account Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and enter your Admin password when prompted. On the left under Current User click on the Add [+] button under Login Options. Setup a new Admin user account. Upon completion log out of your current account then log into the new account. If your problems cease, then consider switching to the new account and transferring your files to it - Transferring files from one User Account to another.
  9. Reinstall a Combo Updater Download macOS Catalina 10.15.7 Combo Update.
  10. Reinstall OS X by booting from the Recovery HD using the Command and R keys. When the Utility Menu appears select Install OS X then click on the Continue button.
  11. Erase and Install OS X Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:

     1. Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on the Continue button.

     2. When Disk Utility loads select the drive (out-dented entry) from the Device list.

     3. Click on the Erase button in Disk Utility's toolbar. A panel will drop down.

     4. Set the Format type to APFS (for SSDs only) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)

     5. Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.

     6. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.

     7. Select Install OS X and click on the Continue button.

Same problem here!

I had the 10.15.6 version and overnight my macbook installed 10.15.7 Combo update. Turns out that it has turned my perfectly fine 2014 macbook into an old computer sweating from every click I make. Exactly like other users are reporting.

I've been trying to downgrade it, but as i've come to understand it is quite hard to do so.

I've managed to download the 10.15.6 update. Could I reinstall this update doing a factory reset?

I have an iMac Pro with 2TB SSD, 64Gigs of RAM and 8 cores. I updated Catalina 10.15.7, and now my machine is so slow that quite often it is unusable. I am no longer able to do video chat on my machine, or watch YouTube or any other streaming videos because the screen has gotten so sluggish it is a horrible experience. I followed all of the above instructions, and finally wiped my disk and did a full reinstall, but nothing has fixed the issue.

Hi Kappy, I couldn’t find iany reference to trolling or “ threadjacking” in the terms of service. I have the same problem and alienexile’s comment was on topic and very helpful. by describing the general nature and time commitment of the proposed solution procedure. This information helps me decide whether it’s worth it to attempt to fix or just buy a new Mac..

Sense The comment doesn’t appear to me to violate any of the terms, I am concerned your reply might be erroneous. set a community understands better can you say what part of his post violated which part of the terms.

Thank you!

since the time i have updated macOS Big Sur as it was required to download few apps , my laptop is working so slow. even when i capture a screenshots, previously it was just in time but now its takes 2-3 seconds to appear and its irritating. now i want to switch the version and issue that previous one is not supporting apps updates. stuck in a bad situation where it looks like that apple is reducing the speed on purpose so that user update the mac model and buy new one. Its totally useless device now.

I have 2 macs that ran into the same problem with 10.15.17 (sluggish). I ran the Combo Update on a macbook mid 2012 and was successful on the update then I ran it on a macmini late 2012 and its giving me "update cant be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update"

Any suggestions?

Thanks
