Apple Watch 6 - No Vo2 Max data

Hi,

This is my first Apple Watch - Series 6 and it's been a great experience so far. The one thing which is troubling is I am not getting any Vo2 Max data being recorded. This is despite doing a number of Outdoor Walks with an average time of 30 mins for each walk. According to the notes, this should be sufficient to record the Vo2 Max. When I check the Vo2 Max Data Sources, there is nothing listed as a source.

I've ensured that both the Watch and iPhone 11 Pro are running on latest 7.0.1/14.01 updates and both have been restarted, with no avail.

I've seen this reported as an issue on the older Apple Watches.

*EDIT* - I can now see other people reporting the same issue with a similar setup as mine. Quite disappointing that Apple has a major bug like this..

Mine was recording fine until I had to do a restore to get my gps and other data back in sync.

It stopped recording at that point.

I have got it back working it would seem by resetting the fitness calibration data

From your iPhone>Watch>Privacy>Reset Fitness Calibration Data>Tap this

you just get a confirmation box that tells you that your metrics will not be as good if you to this.

Tap confirm and do it. You will get nothing else, no confirmation but it is done.

The go for a 20 minute run or walk using the workout app at your normal speed on a flat road/path etc

this will re-calibrate the watch.

The next time you do a workout (not this time) it should show your V02 max

That is what worked for me.

All, I got it finally ( VO2max) readings! Do all the troubleshooting a, then tight the watch just backward the knock on ur hand. I did 25 min run with watch as usual wear and no readings, then I moved it backward and tighten it little, then I been able to get readings for my watch and finally it started showing data source as my apple watch

special thanks for James from Apple support and thanks a lot for calling back today morning

I had the same V02 max issue with my new watch that arrived Nov 2020. within 3 days V02 decreased by 5 ml(kg.min). Simple fix (for me):

Go to Apple Watch app settings

> Privacy > Reset Fitness Calibration Data > Reset.

Note: you will see a warning that fitness data will be deleted. THIS DID NOT OCCUR WITH MY APP.

Everything back to relative normal.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I got an SE last week and it didn't record VO2 Max despite having done a couple of outdoor walks. The watch didn't appear as a data source either. I first tried these steps, which didn't help:

  • Entered a manual VO2 Max reading (37) a few days back in time.
  • Reset the fitness calibration data
  • Did a 25 minute outdoor walk

The next day I did this:

  • Put my phone in airplane mode and made sure that bluetooth also was off. Normal airplane mode won't disable bluetooth if you have an Apple Watch. I checked on the watch that it was completely cut off from the phone.
  • Did a 25 minute outdoor walk.

And that did it! When the walk was finished I had a VO2 Max reading with the watch as data source!

Today I did another walk, the exact same route, but with my watch fully connected to the phone. After the walk I got a new data point, so it seems to be working as it should.

Resolved VO2 Max data issue with iWatch update OS 7.1

My Apple Watch 6, stopped recording the VO2 Max data in health app on 24th October - possibly after I upgraded my iPhone to OS 14.1

I called Apple support to no avail. Unpaired and re-paired. That didn’t work.

However updating the iWatch to OS 7.1 appears to resolved the issue for me.

I took the following steps:

  1. Turned off both the iPhone and iWatch.
  2. switched on the iPhone
  3. put the iWatch on charger which also automatically restarted it
  4. triggered the update from Watch app on the iPhone.

The update took about 30 minutes to complete, after which I went out for a walk. Although I walked only 25 minutes, the VO2 max data appeared on the health app, when I checked it later at home.

Hi,

I managed to get my Apple Watch to record a VO2 Max today. I've done a number of things recently so I'll list the key things for others to see if this works for them.

  1. I manually added a VO2 Max entry at the start of the week.
  2. I completed my first run duration of over 20 mins, hoping that would trigger something. It didn't.
  3. I immediately completed a Walk of over 20 mins. My Apple Watch updated the VO2 Max immediately after the Walk.

Please try the above i.e. Manually add a VO2 Max entry, then for a walk over 20 mins to see if that works.

Thanks.
