That model will support up to the latest macOS version 10.15 Catalina.

You may need to add RAM to upgrade that far.. Most of that model shipped with 4GB RAM. It can "officially" handle 8GB RAM. With new, larger modules developed since Apple engraved the RAM secs in stone 8 years ago, it can unofficially go to 16GB RAM if you get the RAM from Crucial or Other World Computing.

I run 8GB RAM in my 2012 MBP 13 and it has never said it was starved for RAM.

⚠️ Remember that Catalina will not run older software versions. If you have a version of Office older that Office 2016, MS has decided not to offer Catalina-compatible upgrades of old Office versions. Likewise old versions of Adobe Creative sSuites willnot work.

You can use System Information to find the non-compatible "32-but" apps, but this free third-party App is easier:

OS 10.14 Mojave will run the older Apps. However, like my wise colleague leroydouglas I recommend going to10.13 High Sierra frst to make sure you are comfortable with the upgrade. I still run 10.13 on my MBP13 2012 because its old Office version will open and convert really old Word files that Office 2019 on my desktop Mac will not.
