Apple Watch 6 won't swipe up!

I just bought the new Apple Watch 6. Actually I have been using Apple Watch since the very beginning.. Great gadget! But, the swipe up problem persists since series 5 on my Watch. Even now with the newest firmware update it’s here to stay.! Just can’t swipe it up (to turn on/off airplane mode)! Any ideas?

Did you enable display zoom (in accessibility settings) on your iPhone or Apple Watch?

I had the three-finger-gesture display zoom active for ages on my iPhone. This was synched to the Apple Watch but I did not notice at all.

Beginning with watchOS 7, I regularly had to reboot my watch until I found out that turning off the display zoom in the Watch app seems to fix the swipes for notifications and control center.

Dear Apple support:

This problem is so frequently asked that I find it inappropriate to just suggest force restarts, updates or re-pairing the watch. You should have noticed by yourself that this does not solve the problem permanently.

I have the same issue on my Applewatch 6 stainless steel. After using the zoom function, it ofte happened, it won’t swipe.

Now I solved the problem easily. Just zoom in and and zoom out again once or twice with tapning two fingers on the watchface. BINGO the problem is solved, 😊

It’s easier and faster than restarting the Applewatch.

Bought my watch 6 a few months ago. Right from the beginning the watch blokken when I tried to swipe up or down. Brought back my watch twice. Second time got a brand new watch 6. Took 3 hours and the problem was back again. Reading about it on the internet I found out that the zooming cost the problem. Switched this off. The swiping works without blokking. Set the zooming to 3x pushing the dial button. This will start and close zooming.

We disabled the Zoom in the three spots we found to do so (on the watch itself, in iPhone Settings, and in the iPhone Watch App) and so far, so good. It has worked properly for half a day now. Tomorrow will be the telling day. Thank you for confirming and encouraging the Zoom disabling methodology! It is puzzling that Apple support does not know to suggest these special workarounds to make their product work. I will still hesitate in the future to purchase further products from Apple now that a trust issue such as this has occurred.

I only disabled the zoom function in the watch settings. Did touch the other settings as in the iPhone. Works sinds a month without blocking once. Indeed apple could give this solution. Took.my first watch 6 for repair. Got it back problem at the time was still there. Brought it back again and was replaced by a new one. Same problem within hours. Found the zoom solution online. If apple in the first place would have told about the work around would have saved me some frustration and I wouldn't have been without my watch for weeks. For the next replacement I really have to think hard if this will be an apple product again. I think apple should have tried much harder in this case. If we can find the solution online, Apple should be able to do so as well. Bad service my opinion.

This is clearly a software issue that needs to be fixed. My Series 3 never had this issue.

The suggestion to turn Zoom off (in the Watch app on the phone, Accessibility) works. For me, the control center access is much more important than the zoom, so I am OK for now.

It is unacceptable though that we have to choose between access to the control center by swiping up or display zoom by two-finger tap.

FYI, I bought the apple series 6 40mm 2 weeks ago, first time using an apple watch. I am using iPhone 11 pro max and have the same problem since day 1 with both swipe up and down. After a week of daily power cycle on the watch, I've contacted the apple care on Monday and suggested to update my phone iOS from 14.3 to 14.4. Works for 3 days in a row after the update and today on day 4 started again. Contacted them again and suggested me to do factory reset on the watch and book a appointment with their service centre?!

Found the suggested fix of turning off the Zoom accessibility from the forum and seems to work last time before iOS update.

Looks like it's very well known issue from Apple end but refuses to acknowledge that there is actually a software bug on their product! It's a band-aid to turn off a function to make the watch work. Not cool!
