legacy extensions

how do you find legacy extensions for Byunghyun koh developer of apps? What part of the IMac is it found in?.

Hello All first time here.

I have upgraded to Catalina and am having lots of trouble. This IMAC is 5 years old but I would have thought that it would still upgrade without issues. Alas there have been many. And I dont use this IMAC for alot anyway. So I cant understand what the issues are.

Accept this one. I cant find the developer easily under system preferences - extensions. There is no legacy area. Its hard to find. The 'help' doesnt even have it listed.

Any ideas from anyone. Thank you in advance

I think Apple did a very poor job of explaining this. But hopefully they handle it better once it happens.

You should always wait a few iterations of a new OS to get the bugs worked out, that's likely a year from now!

No need to worry, but to see them, just don't upgrade to 10.16 or iOSXi, or whatever Big Sur is if the developers don't have updates...

About this Mac>System Report>Software>Extensions, click on Obtained from Header, all that aren't Apple are Legacy.

Hi BDAqua,

I will type in your directions to the legacy extensions, and see how I go.

Yes I think Im learning not to upgrade until the bugs are ironed out. But the last few upgrades were fine so I thought Id upgrade to Catalina but this upgrade has been a nightmare. I think my IMAC does not have the new 'bits and bobs' for this particular upgrade. Apparently at the next upgrade I will need to buy a whole new MAC. What a waste of money. Apple and Samsung dont seem to last any longer than 5 years.

thank you so much for your help.

At the very very least you should be using Time Machine to backup your computer, not backing up any computer is a guarantee of lost data. Your Time Machine External Hard Disk should be a minimum of 2-3x the capacity of your internal drive. If your existing External Hard Disk is:

  • 5 + years old
  • Has other information on it you want to keep
  • Is not 2-3x the capacity of your internal HD

Then you need to get another External Hard Disk such as https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/owc-mercury-elite-pro . Never use a "Walmart Special" i.e. Seagate, Toshiba, WD External Hard Disk as they are inferior quality.

Many experienced users have 2 External Hard Disks for backing up, why, because when it comes to backing up redundancy is a very good thing. For a second backup they use a bootable clone app such as SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner to backup. Why 2 or more backups, easy...backups can fail too!

Hi rkaufmann87

thanks Ill look into that. I live in Sydney and just realised I am in the wrong region on this forum. I haven't heard of super duper or carbon copy cloner but JBHIFI sell alot of Seagate and Samsung (for android) here in australia. And I have just begun seeing WD on the shelves as well in OfficeWorks.

Sorry to have confused everyone. But this is valuable info if a little rough and ready thanks !
