iPhone XR boot loop

not a question but my iPhone XR was stuck in boot loop and I thought I'd share how I fixed it in case anyone needs it, also not entirely sure if this works with windows.

  1. put iPhone in recovery mode (there are tutorials on how to do this, basically press and release the volume up, then do the same with volume down and then hold the power button until the screen shows the "connect to iTunes" type of screen, if this happens successfully the next couple of steps won't be for you, skip to step 5)
  2. if after going into recovery mode the screen is completely black, plug your phone into your Mac, click on restore
  3. as soon as your iPhone shows the apple logo, unplug it from your mac
  4. go back into recovery mode using the guide in step 1
  5. your iPhone should now be showing the "connect to iTunes" type of screen, plug back into your Mac and click update
  6. after your phone updates it should be working, for me it took about 20 minutes to go through the update process and showed an inverted apple logo at some point, just so you know that this is normal

thank you
