I’ve somehow awoken some rogue spammers in the last 12 hours and am receiving multiple spam texts with notification for each one. I forward them to 7726 and delete them, but I’d rather do it when I want, rather than every time the phone gets hit by one.
I’m not finding a way to limit notifications for texts to those people in my contacts list. Surely Apple has this little trick up it’s Silicon Valley Sleeve.

If the incoming messages are in iMessage form, you can set it up to filter unknown senders. You won't get notifications, and those messages will automatically go to a separate tab in Messages. The "Block phone numbers, contacts, and emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" article has a section that outlines the process.

Is there no way to silence the notifications for messages that come from "not-my-contacts"? It's bad enough that we get spammed but to get a notification for this garbage ought to be something that could be stopped. I would love to be able to limit notifications for messages to only my contacts. Is there no way to do this?

If those messages are coming in as an SMS or MMS message, we encourage you to reach out to your carrier for options. They govern the messages that come into your Messages app in green.
