Can new software be installed on MacBook from 2010 to make it functional? It has OS X now
The newest for that model year is High Sierra macOS 10.13.6 (17G65)
requires download of installer; to then get from online Apple servers.
There may be more steps too, in order to get the installer, and then
download; and then install the download. A hardware upgrade could
be expected as well.
PS: An systems upgrade path may include a download of El Capitan
Mac OS X 10.11.6, before getting later installer/download of High Sierra.

Depends on the 2010 MacBook you have. If it's the thicker and older A1181, you can only go up to El Capitan. If it's the newer A1342, you can go all the way up to High Sierra (still might require El Capitan first before installing HS)
