It happens no matter what I’m taking a screen shot of. It is still dark when the recipient receives it. I turned auto brightness off and still dark.

Hello, Kmctrinity!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have an issue with your screenshots being too dark. Do you have the same issue when you disable auto-brightness? Check out this article to Adjust the brightness on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
"About brightness levels
iOS devices use an ambient light sensor to adjust brightness levels based on the light conditions around you. The sensor lowers brightness in dark locations and raises brightness in light locations. The auto-brightness feature is on by default.
When auto-brightness is on, you'll notice that the brightness slider on your device moves according to changing light conditions.
You can turn auto-brightness on or off in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size."
Once you have disabled auto-brightness, Restart your iPhone and test it again.
We look forward to hearing back from you and take care!
The temporary solution is to turn off HDR: Settings>Camera>Record Video>HDR (turn off).
It is interesting to note that when you upload a video to Facebook or Instagram that was recorded in HDR, it will appear much brighter than what you see on your iPhone. Developer apps are still way behind the HDR technology. Only use HDR when you are sharing between devices that have the compatible technology (iPhone to iPhone).
Apple SW developers need to find a way to fix this screen capture issue in the HDR mode. My wife was greatly disappointed in the upgrade to iPhone 12 Pro, for this very reason. At least now, she has a temporary solution.
A large part of my social media is taking screenshots of videos. I just upgraded to an iPhone 12 and I have this issue with EVERY SCREENSHOT. They're all dark, and it's very noticeable.
@Apple please keep me updated on a fix for this!
Thank you,
Brady
I’m afraid this still doesn’t work for my iPhone 12. I have tried as you suggested taking the auto brightness off and also the filter on zoom as some have suggested but none of it helps
i found the answer. It was a low light feature turned on in the zoom feature.
I found the answer. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Appearance then turn on AUTOMATIC.
This worked for me
Thank you for posting your solution! This worked for me, too!
IPhone 12 mini with the same problem. I don’t have zoom on, happens independent of environment brightness.
Ah thank you for your answer. Turning off the HDR does fix the video screenshots 🙏. This will work for now.
I followed your steps and it only improved it a little but the screenshot is still noticeably darker then the original source.
I noticed it today when I screenshot a part of video! I have an iPhone 12 Pro and the most recent update
Just turning of the zoom feature helped me.
Accessibility > Zoom > Off. Screen brightens back up instantly
