Default email client

For as long as I can remember you have to setup an email in the Mail app in order to change the default email client. This function should really be moved to systems preferences. It is a total waste of time and ridiculous that I have to setup an account to change this, only to turn around and delete the account from mail.

Is there any plan to move this functionality to systems prefs?

Changing Default Email Application I'm trying to change the default email app from Mail.app to Outlook. The only way it seems possible is through the Mail.app. It won't let me past the setup account to access to the preferences without setting up a mail account. I'm on a work system and will not add a personal email account to it. Any way around this.

Default Mail Program - Preview Outlook (or hotmail or exchange, whatever its called these days) has been my default email program since the 80s. i would like it to be the email program that comes up when i want to email a document from Preview. actually, i'd like to be the default email program on my Mac (Catalina). how do i configure this? (i have checked System Preference, Internet Accounts and show only i cloud and Exchange in the left hand pane and have checked Mail and Contacts in the right pane. is this correct for what i want or do i uncheck Mail?) thank you, scott

Agreed totally, but we're likely approaching the time when only Apple Apps will run at all. :(
