i cant access notes

I never set up an actual password for my notes since i had always used touch ID. But ever since i updated my phone to the latest version it says it requires the password and it gives me a hint even though i never set it up. and i read that apple can’t help you access notes that you’ve forgot the password to. i have some important things on notes that are locked and i can’t get into them even though i had never set up a password for it. someone please help

Before you can use Touch ID in notes you have to set a password. It will ask you for a password and you turn on Touch ID. After that you never have to use the password again. So you probably entered a password but forgot that you did so since you only needed to enter it that one time. The reason it requires a password is because you can access your notes on devices that don't have Touch ID (such as at icloud.com on a computer) and it would require the password to open the note.

If you have any other devices where you can access the notes like an iPad then you can copy the notes and create new ones. If you don't have another device you can try any of your old passwords you may have used. Old Apple ID passwords, passcodes on your device, etc. From what I understand you have an unlimited number of tries. If neither of those options work then there isn't anything that can be done to recover them.
