dvd migration to 2020...

I hail from making a lot of DVD's with support from this community for many years. The evolution of things DVD has come to the following business problem...

I have a client who has a library of self help DVD's on technical issues of the day. Great content with good branching. When DVD's are shipped via USPS and there are players the solution is good.

But it is 2020. The player software is available but the physical player device is an option from Apple and others.

One option is to zip the Audio_TS,Video_TS files for a download link. But this becomes a 3GB initiative on average and not everyone has great bandwidth.

Are there creative solutions around this? Parceling the navigation and branching to uTube mp4 segments has been pondered but I wonder if I have not missed some other alternative.

In short the content is king but the pipeline is small. Remembering the fascination in 1994 with vector based animation as an alterntiave to jpeg files...aka FutureSplash which Macromedia packaged as "Flash."

Thanks

One more thought -- since (Audio_TS Video_TS) already been created, you can then use handbrakes to compress to even smaller mp4 file (only 1). However, you probably won't see the DVD-chapter like navigation but 4GB DVD file can be compressed to 1G MP4.

Some people also use different softwares for this type of work (DVD files --> single MP4 file), such as smart converter or others from app store.

This approach has been investigated. While loosing some of the navigation is a consequence even a 1GB file in a DSL/low bandwidth situation is a logistics problem. This is where I got asked to comment/research alternative delivery methods. Having a "rack" of Flash Drives for these situations seems to be a useful direction. However this now introduces a fulfillment requirement into their current business plan...

Rock and a Hard Place;)

To add to BDAqua's suggestion you can make dmg files of the video DVDs and put then on the flash drives. For Macs. there's DVD Player (comes with the System) or the free VLC player that can play the dmg files either on the flash drive or after copying to the computer's hard drive as you would in a set-top DVD player.

Not familiar with PCs but I'm sure there are apps for them that can play video DVD disc images.
