Ios 14 fast charging not working

I noticed that my iPhone X won't fast charging after iOS 14 update. I use 18W PD charger with USB-C to Lightning cable that works perfectly fine in iOS 13 and i don't get double chime either on iOS 14. Does anyone have some issues?

Yes 100% same with me. SE 2. iOS 13 no issues using 18w. Now I plug it in same phone on iOS 14 and it will charge for 20-30 seconds then just stop. If I unplug and plug back in will start again for 20-30 seconds. When this happens the charging symbol goes back to white and the lightning bolt goes away till I re plug it in. This is with apple 18w and apple USB c to lightning cord. I had been using a different 18w plug and thought that might have been the issue so bought apples and it hasn’t helped. I only noticed this as after sitting for a half hour it hadn’t charged so it’s not like it’s charging but not showing

I'm having the same problem too (when plugging in the type C to lightning cable). Looking through your comments, I tried the following:

  1. Close all standby apps
  2. Go in low power mode
  3. Airplane mode (FULL ON with no wifi and no bluetooth on)

Still unable to support fast charging or constant charging to begin with. (It charges and then a few seconds to a few minutes, it will keep restarting itself).

One thing I will note is that I was using a 3rd party 4 ports charger that has one QC 3.0 USB Type C with the rest regular USB ports. This problem does persist when I plug in a little too many devices to charge that draws too much power at the same time.

This ever happens when its from USB type A to lightning no matter how many I plug into the power plug.

Lastly, I also bought a much more breaded USB type C to lightning as the final straw to see if its the culprit.

So I believe it might be the iOS issue in the very long run.

I'm on iOS 14.4.1 as of writing of this feedback!

Looking forward to the community here if there was anything else tried.

I'd imagine there are no articles by apple describing this but to be honest i haven't gotten the double chime either since updating to ios 14 but i do know my phone is still fast charging just because i know how to tell (one indicator is if its warm (to some degree), its probably fast charging, and there are some other indicators as well), so basically apple probably just "fixed" the double chime with ios 14 and your phone is probably still fast charging just like it used to, if you have any other questions feel free to ask and I or someone else can answer them. (also sorry for this post having weird wording, i tried to fix it but i 1. gave up, and 2. didn't really know how to fix it, like, i did now how to, and i tried fixing the wording, but no matter what, it still sounded weird in a lot of parts)

I don't know about that tbh, in my opinion it sounds like its fast charging with what you said but just not AS fast as it should which i mean, is ok, its better probably than a normal charger, but idk, that is a little weird that its not at 50% in 30 minutes, but in my opinion it does sound like it's atleast trying to fast charge or something

I don't quite know why this would be happening but mind i ask, does wireless charging work for your phone? (if you have a wireless charger) because for me all my stuff works, charging, wireless charging, fast charging, everything, something i will mention as well is i believe apple has removed the double chime for fast charging, but tbh i'd suggest that you try wirelessly charging your phone because that'd be the ultimate decider on if it is a software problem, or something's damaged, if it doesn't wirelessly charge, then odds are its either something in your phone is broken, or a software problem, if it does wirelessly charge, well- same thing, it'll signify that either something with your charger port is broken, or a software problem, so if possible i'd try this, or you could always go to Apple and talk to them about it, that'd always work as well of course

I'm getting this issue as well on my iPhone XR with iOS 14. My iPhone doesn't seem to be able to charge at all with my Apple Lightning to USB-C cable and Apple 18W Power Adapter but my AirPods Pro can charge with them just fine and it can still charge my iPhone just fine with a Lightning to USB-A Cable and a Apple 5W Power Adapter. My phone was dead when I first noticed and I was freaking out trying all the different cables and adapters in my apartment before I noticed it was a fast charging issue, since I have defaulted to using the fast charger up until that point. Really hope it can be fixed easily in future iOS 14 updates soon, definitely seems like a software issue to me.

Same issue on the SE 2020. Started happening as soon as I upgraded to iOS 14. I’m glad this thread exists because it seems like a relatively small issue. I brought my SE 2020 to an Apple Store and they weren’t able to do anything. They swapped out all of my Apple fast chargers, but the issue remains. I’ve tried new installs, reinstalling the OS, and wiping device settings. It’s an issue with iOS 14 for sure. I hope this gets fixed in the next software update, but I’m kind of nervous that not enough people are having the issue and so it won’t be escalated.

Agreed. I mean it would be pretty poor on Apple's behalf to not fix it given everyone affected explicitly purchased parts that they cannot actually use. Since we're not afforded a refund outside 14 days we're effectively out the $30-60 without further help and at no fault of ours.

Any idea on how we can escalate or catch someone's eye?
