Safari not working!!!

I need to either get it to work or uninstal it whether it likes it or not because I feel like throwing the ipad in the bin - a browser that doesn't work is no use. My ios is 12.4.8 - it won't update any more - I am livid

Itunes doesn't do anything like the google entries say so - something else must work - I can't stand it any more - life is too difficult!

iPad mini, iOS 12

Try the Following:

I. Restart your iPad:

A. Go Here: Restart your iPad - Apple Support

B. Manual Restart:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: General
  3. Scroll:  to bottom
  4. Tap: Shut Down
  5. Power it back on. Does it work?

II. Remove Temporary Internet Files:

Go Here: Clear the History and Cookies from Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

III. Try Updating the iOS:

Bug would be fixed aside from updates installed.

1. Backup First: Make a backup of your device using iCloud or your computer

2. Then, Update Using these Links:

Not much detail here as to what isn’t working for you - or what in Safari is causing difficulties.

The first generation iPad Air, an iPad mini2 or mini3 cannot be updated beyond iOS 12.4.8.

Apple released these models of iPad between 2013 and 2014, ending update support for these devices in September 2019. They cannot be updated to iPadOS 13 (or any later major versions of iPadOS) as the internal hardware does not meet the minimum technical requirements for new versions of iOS/iPadOS.

These models of iPad use 7 year old technology. Their performance is constrained by their hardware; they cannot be realistically compared, or expected to perform on a par, with more modern devices that feature much more powerful CPUs and significantly improved hardware.

If you can explain more about the difficulties that you have, contributors may be able to offer some constructive suggestions on how to get the best of the device that you have. That said, given the age of the device, you might be best advised to consider replacement with a more modern device. Even the entry level iPad8 will considerably outperform all older devices - and supports iPadOS14.

I have rebooted and cleared temp files etc from Safari - the pages actually load up now and I can input into the screen - which I couldn't before or it would put different characters in from the ones I was inputting! Unfortunately I have just lost a little job I had as the place has shut down so getting a new device is out for now - but I except it won't update sadly. I think I will be doing those 2 things frequently from now on - thanks.

To the original question, what is the issue or problem or limit arising with Safari?

Error messages or diagnostics or other info can potentially help with a solution or a workaround.

As another potential suggestion, clear your saved cookies and saved website data. That via Settings > Safari > Advanced...

[And no, I do not expect pressing the update button will help here.]

On the iPad itself: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - • Apple Support
From a Mac: Update software on iOS devices in iTunes on Mac - • Apple Support
From a PC: Update software on iOS and iPadOS devices in iTunes on PC - • Apple Support

You’re kind of missing the point here. The iPad is already at the final supported version of iOS - and cannot be updated to a more recent version.
