How can I import my pages author book into pages on my ipad to continue editing?

You might want to copy/paste from there into Pages. If you have lost the .iba file on your macbook, you will not be able to edit your book even when you get the new one.

There is no app called "pages author". Do you mean iBooks Author? If so, those files can only be imported into Pages for Mac.
If you are talking about an ordinary Pages for Mac file, you can transfer that via icloud drive or email, etc.
Its a bit complicated, I have started writing a book on my macbook pro with iBooks author and want to continue the project this winter. Sadly my macbook is now defunct and I have one coming from the USA when my friends are able to come over (covid19 restrictions. Meanwhile, I thought I would continue on my iPad, but as you say there is no way as it does not appear on my icloud account altho I can access it on books.
