I accidentally deleted an entire text message conversation, even though I selected just one item to be deleted. My messages are supposed to be backed up to iCloud. How do I get the conversation back?

If you are using Messages in iCloud, you are syncing not backing up. Deleted messages are not recoverable.

I accidentally deleted the entire conversation by selecting one photo in a message and trying to delete just that one photo. There was a green bullet by that one item, so I assumed (incorrectly) that I was deleting just that one item and not the entire conversation thread.
Is it possible to address what I think are misleading directions?
