iOS 14.0.1 issues

Recently updated my iPhone SE 1st generation to IOS 14. The update caused battery percentage issues, screen glitches, and unexpected phone on/off. Did a search on google and appears it is a known issue and iOS 14.0.1 should fix the glitch. Well I did the update and still stuck with the issue. Called support and they advised to bring the phone to a repair centre for further review. It is a two year old phone and it has been used sparingly. The battery life still shows 87%. I don't see any issues with the battery.

Analytics screen has the following message: bug_type: 225, os_version: iPhone 14.0.1 .

It is an inconvenience to take it to apple repair centre and be without a phone meanwhile. And I am assuming if apple can't fix it then am I recycling the phone?

I am a loyal apple user, but this is frustrating!

Anyone with similar issues? any solutions to it?

TIA

I have followed the following guidelines for my iPhone se 1st generation.

Issue

with IOS 14 > unexpected shutdown and battery drainage

upgrade to iOS 14.0.1> unexpected shutdown, battery drainage, screen glitches.

Tried the home button and power pressing simultaneously. Worked for a few days but the phone constantly glitched and finally it doesn't power on. So the soft reset might be doing more harm then good in the long run.

Apple Tech Resolution

Spoke with customer support and they couldn't figure out the issue. Advised to schedule in store tech support. I did and they couldn't power on the phone or do a soft reset (power and home button reset). Told me there is a logic board issue and I need a new phone. They would provide a replacement at $349 for a $30 buyback phone.

Apple solution to this problem is factory reset of your phone.

I have been advised by others that the widgets in background are causing the issue. Try removing all the widgets from your background. I tried that it worked for a few but then it started crashing again to the point that the phone is worthless.

And some experts have told me that my phone had some dormant hardware issues that the upgrade caused it to appear to surface! I am not a tech expert but feels my phone was working fine and apple didn't fine tune the upgrade to match the corresponding iPhones. FYI apple did confirm it was supporting SE 1st generation with the IOS 14 update.

I submitted a complaint via Apple and plan mail a letter as well. But so far Apple has not reached out to me expressing any concern.

FYI I don't know own any apple iPhones anymore.

good luck.

Thanks for your care. I took it to apple store in Guildford Mall. Since the phone was blacked out (e.g. would not respond to a charge, etc) the tech associate came to a conclusion it was the hardware>logic board. He could order a replacement and I would have to pay $349 for an iPhone se 1st generation replacement. FYI if the phone was in a working condition and sell it to Apple they would offer me $30 for it. Told him the issue came about due to IOS 14/14.0.1 update and numerous people are having the issue. Tried to show him the google results pertaining to IOS 14.0.1 issues and also Forums directly from the apple.com website. The tech told me unfortunately he cannot take that into consideration. So i insisted on him finding what could have caused the problem since he is the tech. His answer he is unable to do so since the phone won't turn on at all. Told him the phone was coming with a bug 256 version IOS 14.0.1 issue.

So Dear Apple. The recent incidents and my experience with different apple devices. I come to the conclusion that I am not longer loyal to apple brand. You just lost a customer and my family is an avid apple brand user. If you learn one thing in customer service is that one unsatisfied customer will create a ripple effect. Thank you

Well hopefully your IPHONE is newer model. Mine is a SE 1st generation and so far the excuse has been it is 4 years old and I should upgrade to IPHONE SE 2nd generation lol. Failure to see the consumer buys a brand product for reliability.

If your iPhone is still staying semi powered on then you should seek Apple Tech in store support and get it documented. Let the experts reset your phone to factory.

I have family members with iPhone 7 and upwards model. they experienced the same issue. Their advise was use the iPhone till it dies...do not update IOS.

My father switched to Android....hope Apple doesn't ban this post lol. I have a hand me down Samsung. Got him a samsung A11 basic and the battery lasts 2 days without needing a recharge lol.

FYI i sent a letter by mail to APPLE and filled a complaint via support. No replies yet from APPLE or concern about this issue.

Apple will never see this here. And yes an update can reveal a hardware failure just like incandescent lightbulbs most often fail when you turn on the light switch.

I agree with not doing an out of warranty replacement, for another $50 you can by a second Generation SE. If you go with one of the android devices you will need to be much more careful to guard your security.

I am or I was an apple fan. But again the issue arose due to IOS 14.0.1 update. and Why an Android? aware that it is prone to safety issues but the battery will outlast an iPhone. Second this recent experience just infuriated me. You buy brand items and expensive due to its long lasting assurance. If the phone is going to die within a year then that is another sign that Apple is selling lemons.

If you google IOS 14 or IOS 14.0.1 you will come to see I am not the only one being hassled. The apple forums are filled with discontent pertaining to this. In the past Apple had a lawsuit pertaining to shortening the lifespan of the batteries. This just strengthens my belief that I need to drift away from Apple brands.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I filed a complaint via the online chat and in the process of mailing a letter to Corporate Dept. While filing a complaint the support associate told me the issue is with my phone (logic board/hardware) since that is what the apple tech store associate entered in the log. Told him correction he couldn't access the diagnostic because the phone would not power on. Then the online associate changed the topic to *what I meant to say is the issue is not software related but the phone itself*. WTF how are you going to twist my words and try to bring emphasis to my phone is the issue and not IOS 14.0.1/IOS 14 killing my phone.

Well I own mac, apple watch, etc. But all this just reinforces my stand that I need to buy an Android. Thanks APPLE you lost a customer. and the ripple effect of your poor customer service will show in the coming days.
