MacBook Pro 2015 13" vertical gray lines

Hi we just got a MacBook Pro to fix and it does the old gray screen and has vertical Lines on the screen when I try to do a pram reset the SMC reset worked is it normal for it to do the old gray screen or the new black screen oh and by the way it does not show a blinking folder or apple logo and has a big gray spot in the screen like the old owner slammed it in to the keyboard

Sounds like the LCD Panel is bad which requires the whole Display Assembly to be replaced. Try using an external display. You will most likely have to use Clamshell mode by closing the display to force the laptop to use the external display (also requires using an external USB keyboard and mouse). You may even need to perform a PRAM reset as well.

The PRAM reset I mentioned is for getting the Mac to push video to the external display if you have difficulties getting the external display to work in mirroring mode. When the internal display has issues, then getting video to the external display can be extremely difficult at times. Apple doesn't make it easy to do the simple things anymore since they've removed the key combinations to mirror displays (or they changed the default keys and I just don't know the keys now at least for Touchbar models).
