I have recently discovered that my iPhone makes a clicking noise whenever I open Snapchat or the camera app. My pictures don’t come out wavy or anything but it’s really annoying. I have had many iPhones before and they have never had this issue. I’m not to sure if something is wrong with the iPhone because it only just started happening.

So off the back of some responses where people woke up and it was fixed, I did a hard reset (vol up, vol down, hold power) and on reboot the noise is gone. This confirms to me that it is a fault in iOS 4.2 that is causing this to occur. It is not a mechanical failure, it seems to be iOS aggressively activating the OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) unit on camera launch, and it hits the boundary and springs back down thus the little spring “boink” we hear. I just hope it’s not ruining the OIS mechanism.

well, worth mentioning that I took the time to chat to an apple support representative the other day and they didn’t know what I was referring to (which didn’t give me the peace of mind I was after). They offered to book an appointment to go personally to a store for someone to take a look at the device in person... because of the current lockdown situation I won’t be doing this for now but will update this post if/when I end up going
This is exactly what I contacted support for. I wouldn’t mind the sound if it was meant to be. But when I talked to them all they told me was it was probably mechanical, it should be taken into a tech to be looked at and when I told them I wouldn’t be able to for months, I asked if it was okay to leave as is and they said it would be perfectly fine if i left it as is.. so I never got an answer what it was, and apparently it wouldn’t change the function of my camera.. I then woke up the next morning to find it no long made the noise..
Have any of you also got a loose mute switch and find if you hold your phone up to your ear in a quiet room, you can hear a buzzing/ticking/whining?
