Catalina update causes problems with Touchbar

On Friday my 2017 (late 2016) Macbook Pro automatically updated Catalina to 10.15.7. Since then the touchbar has developed a life of its own like someone is remotely controlling it. It brightens and darkens the screen randomly, opens apps, adjusts the volume, etc. all while you are doing something else. Even while I am typing this. Called Apple Support and they had no answers.

This is ridiculous!
