Recently did an update and can't remember old passcode

My phone has recently been reset and I can't remember my old passcode to complete the update apple settings but it says I can approve my iphone from another device that I'm signed into. How do I do that? (Approve my iphone from another device). Btw I have an iPhone 6s Plus
