New MacBook Pro freezes for after waking up from sleep

I recently got the 2020 13" MacBook Pro with 16gb ram a few months ago, and it was running smoothly. But right now, whenever I wake it up from sleep the trackpad and screen freezes. I would have to wait awhile for the trackpad to work again. Or close down close my laptop again and open it for it to work. Not to mention, it sometimes lags a bit when I open several apps or move between full screen apps.

I still have a lot of ram left and my cpu usage is low. I tried the SMC and PRAM reset but its still happens occasionally, not sure what to do :/

Hello devline and welcome to Apple Support Communities. It appears you are having some difficulty with performance when exiting sleep mode on a MacBook Pro.

If there is an external monitor connected, start by disconnecting that and testing.

If there is no external monitor connected or if there is not difference in behavior when it is disconnected, there are a couple of additional isolation steps to try.

1) Start by doing a safe boot of the Mac. This will clear some cache files, turn off some system extensions and log-in items and give you a good foundation. After doing the safe boot, reboot normally and test.

How to use safe mode on your Mac

2) If the issue persists after a safe boot, set up a new admin user account and boot into that for testing. Doing so helps you to isolate the issue to the system or the user data and ultimately resolve it.

You can find the steps to add a user here:

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Cheers.
