airpods being picked up by other devices in household

When my husband uses his airpods and I touch my phone, the airpods switch to using my phone, and the same when my daughter uses her ipad, the airpods switch to that. How do we make sure these other devices don't use the airpods?

Hello Jork123 and welcome to Apple Support Communities. It appears you are having some difficulty with a pair of AirPods switching the device to which they are connected, unbidden.

Is your husband using an Apple device as the sound source when using the AirPods? If he is, are the device he's using and your iPhone set up using the same Apple ID?

If the above is the case, this would be expected behavior as AirPods are capable of being handed off to the most currently active device connected to the Apple ID the AirPods are associated with.

If your iPhone and the device your husband is using do not share an Apple ID, try going to Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone. Tap the line for your husband's AirPods and forget them. Then reboot and test with your husband playing content to the AirPods and you beginning to use your iPhone in the same room.

If none of this resolves the issues, reach out to Apple Support directly for additional options.
