If your MacBook Air is a 2010 or newer model, then you can upgrade to High Sierra via this link. Use only the Safari browser with that linked site to get a good download of the High Sierra installer. If your MacBook Air is a 2012 model or later, then you can upgrade to macOS Mojave.

Do perform a Time Machine backup before you upgrade.

Once macOS 11 (Big Sur) is released in the Mac App Store, not long afterward, you will need Mojave to install Microsoft 365, or the single purchase Office 2019 for Mac. Microsoft tracks Apple's three-year sliding window of support, and as of this post, High Sierra is required, but once support for High Sierra is dropped by Apple on release of macOS 11, then Microsoft will require Mojave for installation of their products.

The last version of Safari for High Sierra is 13.1.2, and for Mojave, 14.0 (without Adobe Flash support).
