Numbered tables in Pages

Hi,

I have a Pages document in which I present a series of small tables. Each table has a title, let's say Chocolate – Candy – Licorice.

The tables contain data related to different topics, let's say the annual consumption of children vs. adults. Each topic is on a separate page. So there is one page showing the tables on chocolate/candy/licorice (children) and another showing those on chocolate/candy/licorice (adults).

The titles are supposed to be Chocolate – Candy – Licorice no matter the topic. But whenever I insert a table with the same title as already existing in the document, it becomes numbered (Chocolate-1).

How can I prevent that? I already tried inserting a new section in the document right before the next topic, but it does not change the numbering.

Thank you for hints or workarounds!

Hi Kristina,

Pages does not allow tables with the same name. If you use formulas, Pages needs to refer to unique table names.

One way is to rename the tables:

  • chocolate (children)
  • candy (children)
  • licorice (children)
  • chocolate (adults)
  • candy (adults)
  • licorice (adults)

Regards,

Ian.
