Cutting photos from sd card

After you copy the image files, you can simply drag from the SD card folder to the trash and empty the trash.

However, personally after I copy the images from the card I put the card back in the camera and format it.

Copying the file will not affect image quality. However, if you're using a lossy image format (like JPG), opening the file and re-saving it will cause in loss of quality, although arguably not really perceptible unless you do it very frequently to the same file.

I use Apple's Image Capture app that came as part of macOS to edit/cut unwanted pics from my DSLR's card. Quite easy to use. See:

Sorry, I associated "cut" with deleting files that were not needed for the transfer.
