Yes that notice appears when the battery and intelligent circuit has indication
of low storage value remaining and could mean the battery is beyond useful
life. So rather than have a low or failed battery choose to leak &/or swell, the
idea would be to get the Mac portable inspected and battery replaced soon.
If the keys, trackpad, or keyboard area itself have external indication of swelling
then it may already have caused damages inside. Often the Top-Case is replaced.
So the battery may be considered part of the sub-assembly on newer models.
Good luck & happy computing!🌻|🐝

Yep, Same on my spare MacBook air which is over 10 years old.
I got the message over the weekend-
this is not swell! (ha-ha)
but this MacBook does not have a top case screen and needs a monitor to operate.
the battery lasts for a couple of hours even when plugged into a HDMI HD Tv running mountain lion.
so I'm just ignoring this message unless i notice any malformations on the battery.
and now my main MacBook air 2010 4gb claims the battery needs servicing, just now,
how swell is that!
the battery is fine and i think this is just to get is to buy buy buy new products,
which i might when everyone is happy with the new arm chip and our iPad apps work on the MacBooks
