Series 5 watch restarting

My Apple Watch series 5 keeps restarting itself. It will randomly shut Itself off and then restart on it’s on. It seems to have started with the last update. Any ideas on how to fix it?

RESOLVED: I updated to 7.2, the issue continued to occur. My eureka moment was to erase (again for the millionth time) but while on 7.2 - worked like a charm. Haven’t had the issue since. Try erasing and setting up as new one more time!

I have seen the exact same behavior with my Series 5 Watch. Constant resetting but it does vary day by day (some days it works fine and other days it is a paper weight). I have had the Apple Store and Apple Service Depot look at it. They finally replaced it last week. Same problems as before but only after 3 or 4 days of perfect operation. The watch will reset until it runs out of battery (usually an hour or two or resetting).

My wife has a series 3 which has the same issue... My kids Series 3 are solid with no issues

My issue happens at home and out of the house, in different temps, etc.

I have tried all of the troubleshooting sets mentioned here including setting up as a new watch with no additional apps.

I do notice that from time to time there are log file generated by the watch. I have looked at them but don't see anything that jumps out at me. I wonder if someone from Apple would look at these for us to see if there is something that stands out?

I have an iPhone XsMax running the latest iOS, watch OS 7.1

I am frustrated as I like the technology but this looks like a software bug that it not getting fixed in a meanful timeframe

I too have this same problem. I have a Series 5 on 7.1 and an iPhone 11 on 14.2. My partner has the Series 6 on 7.1 and XR on 7.1. Both devices constantly reboot - sometimes every few seconds, sometimes hours. Tried fully resetting (incidentally it rebooted on the setup screen as well). The Series 5 is much worse than the 4th. Also removed all 3rd part apps and kept the standard watch face. Seems to do it massively more when during a notification.

Worth noting, it appears to be restarting the springboard, not actually rebooting as the display comes up in a few seconds.

Spent hours with apple running diagnostics, taking photos etc only to be called 3 days later and asked to do it all again. Politely declined as it was a huge waste of time.

Sounds like we are not alone in these issues.

Hi I had long saga with Apple support concerning my AW5 which after an hour or hour and a half of workout untethered from the phone and on cellular will shut down while still showing more than 70% charge and then restarts showing only reserve power. It's been back twice and the third time they replaced it with a new one. I set it up as a new watch and for good measure wiped and restored the phone (6S).

And the brand new watch does exactly the same thing. Someone suggested that the interaction between watch and phone is concerned and that seems likely, but the same person said that if that's the case the whole 'ecosystem' is so complicated that it seems difficult to figure out what's causing the problem.

It also seems this is a problem experienced by many users, but which Apple pretends doesn't exist. I'm kind of giving up at this point and at least I got a new watch out of it . . .

I have the same issue. A few weeks ago, Apple Support tried everything and it didn’t work so I had to send it in for repair, they sent it back without a repair with no explanation, it seemed ok the day it was sent back and then it started again the next day, Apple Support tried to assist on the phone and did a diagnostic, found that it keeps rebooting constantly and then it’ll be fine for awhile, sent it in and they sent back a replacement watch, received it today and guess what? This replacement is doing the same exact thing as the other one. This is definitely a widespread issue and they’re not seeming to acknowledge it as that. Now, in the morning, I have to waste another hour of my life on the phone with them and repeat this cycle all over again.

Having the same issue. I’ve done everything I can, including resetting and restoring as a new watch instead of using a backup and these “solutions” only work for a day or two before it starts all over again. I guess I’m glad to hear it’s probably not a hardware issue based on the experience mentioned here because I was contemplating on sending mine. Hoping Apple responds to this issue soon. Pretty frustrating to have a device less than a year old that I’m still paying for that is rendered completely useless due to this issue.

I also have the same issue and had for months now. Tried all the combinations of reset/reboot/restore/new watch/ erase and none succeeds for more than a day. I decided not to buy another Apple Watch and switch to Garmin. Shame loved both my Apple watches and feel really disappointed that issue has dragged past two updates, makes me believe that potentially the problem is a combo of hardware-software and that fixing in software will probably compromise the watch battery life and responsiveness due to a yet undisclosed flaw in the apple hardware.

Having the same issue and have been refused warranty repair. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience?

My Apple Watch 5 has, like many since OS7, had battery problems. However it had a further problem of cutting out during workouts at over 50% battery, and not restarting til on the charging base when it showed it still had that amount of charge. After a number of hours of discussion with advisers and senior advisers at Apple and two returns for supposed repair the outcome was that they said because the watch face had a scratch, which they referred to as ‘accidental damage’ and that is not a warranty repair I either had to pay the full out-of-warranty service costs (£326-44) or not have it repaired. The scratch is cosmetic and so fine I can’t photograph it and Apple were not able to provide any photos showing it. The watch is a wearable active device and inevitably is going to experience wear and abrasion.

So my question is whether this is a one off problem I need to deal with, or whether others have had the same problem of Apple refusing to repair a watch under warranty because they regard any scratch as ‘accidental damage’? If the latter, then I think this method of avoiding warranty claims is unjust and unfair.
