Duplicated images

I just realised that making photos in 16:9 mode it always creates 2 photos physically in the phone (11 Pro / iOS 14).

One IMG_xxxx and another IMG_Exxxx...

Why it should be like this - everything duplicated.

Does anybody know?

Thank you.

Even when you are taking the photos at a 16:9 aspect ratio, the sensor will record the photo at 4:3 and and the camera.app will just crop the photo. The sensor is 4:3, so the photo will be taken as 4:3 and then cropped.

When I take a 16:9 photo, iCloud Photos will sync it to my Mac as 16:9, but it will show in Photos for Mac as an edited photo, and when I revert it to the original it will be 4:3. I am having the same iPhone model as you and as far as I can tell, t has always been this way, that the camera has just applied a cropping to the 4:3 original. It has been saving us an editing step.

But I am not cropping it ... I am taking the photo in 16:9 aspect - that's the original camera aspect ratio ...

I was always taking photos in this format (16:9), but as if previously I did not take also 4:3 (when I make it in 16:9)...

Could it be something new ... and now taking in 16:9 I am getting always 2 images - 4:3 and 16:9 and one of them just looks not realistic ... I may show an example...
