iPad is still associated with another account

I have an iPad (6th gen, latest updates) that was originally used with my wife's account by our kids. As they grew a bit older we created accounts for them and I added their accounts under my "Family sharing" account.

I logged my wife out of the iPad/App store and logged my daughter's account instead. In iCloud the iPad is not shown under my wife's devices anymore as well.

However I noticed 2 things:

  1. If I am updating apps, even with my daughter's account being the one logged in, I am still challenged to authenticate with my wife's account
  2. In settings, in the Apple ID view, the button to sign out is disabled with a message "Sign out is not available due to restrictions"

Do I need to erase the iPad completely to make it forget my wife's account from it? What about the apple id sign out button?

Simply signing-out of iCloud doesn’t sign-out of all other Apple Services - or remove association with the AppleID account that activated the device.

If transferring the device to a new user, it is recommended that you follow this process to properly prepared it. The process ensures that all sensitive data is erased and - crucially, the Activation Lock and association with an AppleID account is removed:

One prepared, the new user can set-up the iPad “as new” from the initial Hello screen.

I hope this information and guidance proves to be helpful in resolving any difficulties.
