Does `Purchase Date not Validated' for AirPods mean they are fake? Or genuine Apple but stolen etc?

No, it means exactly what it states. Apple is able to validate the serial number however not able to determine/validate a purchase date. This can happen if the AirPods were purchased from a third party seller other than Apple. You can contact ➔ Apple Support and have Apple verify/validate the serial number if you like.
