Received an email saying the following :
Your AppleID has been disabled - current changes were made from Ottawa. Code:
I don’t know if this is a spam email or not... how do I check?

It is a phishing scam. Delete that email. You do not check. Apple will never send you an email informing you about the status of your Apple ID. Issues with Apple ID will be sent as notifications on your iPhone. The sender of that email is attempting to divert you to a website making you think that it is Apple and then capturing your Apple ID and Password.
