Formatting Preferences

Hi, I am new at asking questions in this community, but I am not new at Pages. I have just struggled through for several years and am ready to learn more than the basic things. I want to set preferences for formatting. For instance, when I currently use bullets and lists, the lists do not indent. I want to know if I can set the number to indent .25 inch and the text to indent another .25 inch. So far I have had to indent them each time and on each page. It is really getting old!

In the pages preferences there are no options to set preferences and I'm hoping there is a way in some other place in the software.

I looked on this community and found a post that seemed like it could help, but it was 6 years old and the procedure was obsolete.

Please let me know how to set formatting preferences for my documents.

Thanks,

Julie

Hi Julie,

Start here:

With the cursor in the paragraph Apples, choose a bullet style and set the indents for Bullet and Text

The list style shows as Bullet* because we edited the style.

Click on the Pop-Up Menu to the right of Bullets and Lists

Do not click on Update.

Click on the Plus sign (top right of that List Styles menu to add a custom style)

You will see a suggested name for your new list style. You can edit the name.

Now select all paragraphs were you want to apply the custom list style.

Change None to your custom list style (Bullet 1 in this example)

You can use that custom list style anywhere in that document.

To transfer that style to a new document, copy a list item and paste into the new document. With the cursor in one of the custom list items, add (click on the Plus sign as described above).

Ian.
