27" iMac from 2010
Can the hard drive in a 27" iMac from 2010 be used for storage while the iMac is being used solely as a monitor for another computer?

I use a 2010 27” iMac in Target Display Mode 8 hours a day. In my experience you can use it as an external monitor or as a computer, but not both at the same time. I never see the internal drive or any external drives connected to the 2010 iMac in Target Display Mode.

Sure as long as it has Mac OS installed on it and it can boot from the HD then yes the HD can be used for storage.
It has to be booted up in order to use TDM.
Thank you!
Thank you for your reply. Is the computer actually booted when it's used as a monitor only? That's why I was curious. I want it to show up as a slave drive to the computer that I'm using it as a monitor for.
