Slow running Mac

Please could you have a look at this Etrecheck report for me? The Mac this is for is running very slowly and beach balling a lot.

Yes, I can see how that would happen. I have some observations to offer. You only have 8 GB of RAM installed, which is insufficient. You are running Catalina, which does require more RAM than some older operating systems. You have an older mechanical hard drive, which is also slow. To run Catalina, it is said that you need at least 16 GB of RAM, but I would install a total of 32 GB to be safe. Upgrading is possible in your computer as you have two vacant slots. (Install a set of two RAM cards.) It is easily done in about 10 minutes or less. You should only buy RAM from either crucial.com or mac sales.com as their RAM works, while most other vendor's RAM often does not. Their web sites have videos which show you how to easily do the installation yourself. Optionally, you could add an external solid state drive (SSD), install Catalina on it and use as the startup drive and that will give you additional speed. Beyond that, good maintenance requires that you periodically restart your computer at least a couple of times a week. I hope this helps and good luck.
