Exercise ring not accurate not sure why I purchased this watch ?

Apple Watch 5......This has been discussed many times and as far as I can tell there is no solution. Hopefully someone from Apple will respond. Example of my activities yesterday. I did a Spin class for 54 minutes as recorded by workout app set to cycling. Exercise ring said I did 16 minutes. Move ring works correctly. I went out to my workshop and was cutting a piece of metal by hand. It took me several minutes. I looked down and I got credit for 4 minutes of exercise by basically standing there and and moderately moving my arm back and forth, but barely any credit for spinning with HR over 100.

My conclusion is that the watch requires active arm movements to accurately record exercise. I did another spin ride that had a mix of arms with weights and I noticed that it did record minutes during those arm routines.

My solution today was to pick "other" from the workouts and it did record every minute of my spin class. I hate that because my training log is not accurate as far as activity, but at least it recorded it.

By the way I have talked to apple support on another matter which resulted in me unpairing the watch, factory reset, and set up as a new watch. None of those activities resolved this problem. They also ran diagnostics on the watch and it came back clean.

The exercise ring doesn’t measure time of a workout, it measures time of intense activity where your heart rate is above normal. So, for example, on a walk, it’s harder to get your heart rate up for a long period of time and therefore harder to get all 30 minuets of exercise credit. Your Watch uses a lot of different data in its calculations as well, including arm movement in applicable exercises.
