Macbook batteries: Real or Fake

Hi,

im using a 2016 macbook pro, the battery got swollen had to get it replaced, so

I was wondering if there is a way to tell if a macbook pro battery is real or fake; if there are anything that differentiate a genuine one from a fake one?

You should always have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider replace the battery as long as the laptop is still supported by Apple. Apple now supports "Vintage" hardware as long as the parts are still available, although I believe only an AASP will be able to replace the battery on a "Vintage" laptop.

I will not buy a third party Lithium-ion battery because the quality is so extremely poor even when purchased from a reputable vendor such as OWC. If an official Apple battery is not an option, the a battery from OWC is your next best option. Keep in mind many third party parts are just cheap knock-offs with such poor quality that they can actually be extremely dangerous and sometimes even a fire hazard.

FYI, when using a third party battery in a Retina laptop, then Apple may no longer service the laptop. If Apple does service the laptop the price of the replacement part may be much more expensive because you will lose the exchange price on the part.
