How to stop the camera app compressing the audio from video recordings?

Hello,

I bought a Rode VideoMicro mic to obtain better audio quality during video recording.

When using the large windshield, I still get lot’s of wind noise hitting the mic, even in moderate wind conditions.

After a conversation with Rode support, they have suggested the problem is down to the camera app compressing audio whilst recording.

I don’t want to use a manual camera app which would enable me to input manual settings for picture and audio, but I’d like to stop the Apple camera app from compressing my audio.

I’d be grateful if anyone had a work around to resolve my issue?

Thanks

Dave

Hi lilleshall,

Thanks for posting your question! We see you have a concern about audio quality when recording using a microphone. That's certainly understandable, and we're glad to provide some information about this.

While there is not a way to adjust how the built-in Camera app records audio, you can always send this suggestion to Apple here: Product Feedback. As an alternative, you might check into third-party options to see if there might be any that would do what you are looking for: Download apps and games from the App Store

We hope that helps.

Kind regards.
