I just realized I kept typing DV, out of habit I guess; I wanted to add a question about DP, Display Port. Thanks to all, Happy Halloween.
Yes, a USB 3 to Display Port cable would be the better connection because it is less problematic than HDMI.

Hello, you did not specify what year model Mac Mini and what 4K monitor.
Most newer 4K monitors also have Display Port input and that would be better than using HDMI.
Wow Solvang, I haven’t been there in years. I can only imagine how hard COVID has been on some of the neat little shops and other cool things to do and see in Solvang.
Per MacTracker for Mac mini 2018: Up to two displays with 4096 by 2304 resolution at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt 3 plus one display with 4096 by 2160 resolution at 60Hz connected via HDMI 2.0 or One display with 5120 by 2880 resolution at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt 3 plus one display with 4096 by 2160 resolution at 60Hz connected via HDMI 2.0
Which means all paths can exceed that monitor.
No problem, you're welcome.
You still have not specified exactly what brand or model the monitor is and that makes it real hard to nail down the best connection for it.
If the monitor has HDMI input, you can use a good quality the HDMI to HDMI cable,
If the monitor also had DVI input, you can use a USB-C to DVI adapter and a DVI cable.
There is really no better between those 2 connection methods, but we might do better if we knew exactly what monitor you have.
I haven't asked a question here before, I didn't think I could get specific product answers. The Mac mini is the 2018 3.6 and the monitor is from Viotek: it has a resolution of 3840X2160@60h. I read that the DV adapter would offer a lower resolution; so I used the HDMI 2.0 port with a high speed cable. I use something different for games, so the refresh rate is maybe not the priority; I got a deal on the monitor, and I want to try to get it as crisp a picture as possible. The settings: DCR, Freesync, HDR, Gamma 2.0-2.6, how should those be set? What should the Mac display settings be?What about the FPS RTS, and the picture mode: Movie, Game, etc....Thanks for the help.
Solvang is struggling like everywhere, but there are still quite a few visitors; plus there's a Casino just up the Road!
Thanks, may I ask You a follow up? If I took a different 5K monitor with the Thunderbolt connection, it would be cool to leave this monitor with the HDMI. and I could also use the USB to a Large lower resolution screen via some sort of adapter; Have them all connected simultaneously and play simultaneously? I am ignorant of the subject, this kind of information is helpful, thanks again.
That Viotek isn’t quite 4K.
HDMI here can’t do 5K.
Non-native resolutions tend to be muddy.
You can do three 4K displays, or one 5K and one 4K.
Apple doesn’t support USB displays.
Apple does do Thunderbolt 3 via USB-C, but (confusingly) that’s not USB.
Thanks, what if the monitor has the DV port, but the Mac mini 2018 has the lightning and the usb and the hdmi. Thanks again.

10/4
Thanks, I'm going to the Amazon.
