Do Full Page Screenshots in iOS / iPadOS have a maximum length limit?

I have read other people post about this same issue, but haven't read any solutions thus far...

I am a big fan of the Full Page screenshot feature on the iPhone & iPad! It typically works great, but I have been running into issues (for a while now) when I try to Full Page screenshot a Safari article or any webpage that is particularly lengthy. So I was wondering if there is a maximum length that a full page can be and anything longer will be cut off...?

I have tested various links from the same website just to make sure the site is not the issue – and only the very long webpages are the ones that run into this issue. I even checked Apple's Official website, and their long web pages get cut off too! If I open these lengthy pages on my MacOS Safari and export PDF, then the entire article or page is saved to a pdf no problem. So the issue is specific to the iPhone/iPad feature of saving an entire PDF as a single (full) page.

This issue is occurring on my iPhone XR (iOS 13.7) and iPad Pro 12.9" Gen.2 (iPadOS 13.7), and it has been an issue for at least a few 13.xx versions. It is interesting to note that if I try to full page screenshot the same lengthy article on my iPhone and iPad it will get cutoff on both devices, however, the cutoff point occurs at a different spot on each device. Typically the iPad's screenshot will get cutoff earlier. I assume this is because the screen is larger and spreads text out more.

As of now, I am just using my MacBook Pro to save long articles, but I know some people are not as fortunate to have multiple Apple devices, so any advice on solving this issue would be great!

Yeah, I’ve been having this issue with long articles throughout every version of iOS/iPadOS 13.xx - honestly I think there might be length cap in place...

My only work around is creating those long PDFs using MacOS (or Windows). Alternatively, in cases where the cutoff only leaves a few screenshots leftover, you can screenshot those extra parts individually (do not crop the original or extra shots). Then you can combine all of the files into a single PDF using a document editor – I use Adobe Acrobat DC’s Combine Files feature. Before exporting the final document, you can set it’s view/scroll setting to "contiguous single page" to give you the same single page look that Full-Page Screenshot gives you.

Hope a fix comes out sooner than later...

Hi eyeala,

Thanks for posting! We see you have a question about the full page screenshot function, and it looks like you're finding that it cuts off at a certain point on multiple devices. We'd like to see how we can assist.

When you take one of the screenshots and tap Full Page, does the entire document load in the center window? Also, does it show the entire document in the preview on the far right, or is it cut off there as well? Knowing this would help determine if the issue is with the screenshot, or with how it exports.

Also, to test further, you might try grabbing a few full page screenshots from another app, like Mail. Does the same behavior occur there with a lengthy email?

Let us know!

Take care.

Hello eyeala,

Thanks for replying! Since both of your devices are running earlier software versions, it might help to try backing up and then updating one of the devices, and then testing to see if that helps.

Here's how:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If that doesn't help, we recommend looking into this further with Apple using this link: Get Support

Kindest regards.

The document does NOT entirely load in the center window or the preview side to the right. It appears to cut off at the same point in the center and preview windows. This is the case in every example I have tested when the webpage is too long.

As far as in the Mail App it is doing the same, although it is hard to tell since long email threads repeat the conversation in every reply. Also taking a Full Page screenshot in the Mail App (for me) typically creates multiple pages, while Safari will just create an extremely long single page. (Side note: it would be a great feature to be able to choose between multi-pages and a single long page).
