Strange badge in FB app for iPadOS 14.01
Anyone know what this green video symbol is (FaceTime or Facebook Messenger video icon), why its present in the Facebook app and persistent when no other apps are open?

You’ve likely hit the nail - in that the camera will have been active whilst the FaceTime App is active.
The green icon generally indicates that your camera is “live”. If this gives cause for concern, it may be advisable for you to check the App permissions for your iPad camera:
Settings > Privacy > Camera > Facebook
Thanks. Possibly (concerned) yes and agreed. Difficult to tell if it's an indicator of a spying attempt or a harmless vestige of a FaceTime session immediately proceeding (wasn't mentioned). Would like to outrule the former. We see the device is in Airplane mode. Whether or not that would affect a persistent camera icon in iOS 14.0.1 seems unlikely but still anyone's guess...
