Thunderbolt 3 Dock - USB issues after rec

I have the following setup in my home office:

2020 13in MBP ---> Caldigit Dock ---> External display

---> USB HDD

---> USB HUB ---> Lots of peripherals including mouse/keyboard

This has been working great for me since all I have to do is plug in one thunderbolt cable and I'm set up.

I recently upgraded (1mo) from a 2016 13in MBP to this 2020 13in MBP. I migrated by restoring a time machine backup.

Since I upgraded I get the following issue:

  1. First time I connect the thunderbolt cable everything works great
  2. If I disconnect and reconnect the cable display still works fine, USB refuses to work, both hub and dock devices

If I reboot the computer everything will work again - once. The moment I reconnect the cable I have to reboot the laptop which is incredibly annoying.

This worked perfectly with the 2016 macbook. I still have it around and I tested this out.

Both were fully updated. Reset SMC and cleared NVRAM, same behaviour.

Has anyone seen this before?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
