I was using Audacity when then computer crashed. It restarted, but when I tried to reopen an Audacity file, it said a version of Audacity was already running, but the icon does not show as open, so I can't force quit it. Anyone know what's going on? I'm using a MacBook Pro High Sierra 10.13.6.
I guess it's possible the file in question was corrupted because of the crash. Do you happen to have a backup of the file in Time Machine previous to the crash?

So, if I double click on the Activity Monitor there are 5 tabs: CPU, Memory, Energy, Disk, and Network. Which tab should I look under? The default is the CPU tab, but I didn't see Audacity listed there.
Hmmm. It's still not letting me open an old file, flagging it with a warning that Audacity is already running. I can force quit Audacity while the message is in place, but still get the warning when trying to open a file. Not sure what the solution is.
I do have backup files, and other Audacity files (.aup). It won't open any of them. Could the Audacity program itself be corrupted? If so, would it be generating the warning message or does the message come from some other system on the computer? I appreciate your help with this, by the way.
And where would I find that?
Copy the path, while in the Finder press Command Shift G, paste in the path, click Go.

That did finally work. I was even able to recover the file I had been working on.
Open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder, look for the Audacity process and force quit it.
If it's not listed under the CPU tab then it's not running.
It's possible. You could always try reinstalling Audacity. You might want to try deleting ~/Library/Preferences/org.audacityteam.audacity.plist first.
