Portrait Photos are FLIPPING landscape when I zoom in on them in the Photos app on my Mac

I just got a new iMac, running the latest OS. When I downloaded all my wife's camera photos, they looked great. All the tumbnails were correctly oriented. She must have clicked on or did something... Now, whenever we zoom in on a portrait image, the Mac quickly flips the image to Landscape (sideways). The image isn't "rotating" (because rotating the image won't fix it). It just keeps it landscape when we are zoomed in. Why is this??? I think she may have inadvertently started to edit the images with Corel Aftershot Pro 3 - would that make this happen? I clicked on the photo to see if I could select "Revert to Original", but that option was greyed out in the Image menu at the top of the screen...

Similar issue, for sure. However, no real solution is offered. The issue is NOT the images. They all opened just FINE (proper orientation). My wife was paging through each one of them and enjoying the experience. Then, she accidentally opened the editing software on one image and continued paging through each subsequent image (blown up to full screen). Now, each of them appear to be "in editing" by the Corel AfterShots 3 software, and each of the images has become affected. When you see the thumbnail, it's FINE. When you double-click on it, it opens in Portrait for a mere fraction of a second, then it flips on its side to fill the whole screen in landscape. If you rotate the image, it keeps showing it wrong. It just makes it go WIDE and stretched. This is a complete GLITCH in the photos app on the new Mac OS - and it is SUPER frustrating!!!

I was trying to show my wife how EASY it is to view and edit her images. Instead, we both got real frustrated!

One other tidbit... I attempted to "edit" some of the images in a different software. When I did, it asked if I wanted to be "done" editing them in the Corel software. I said "yes", did anything I could, and then told the image to "Revert to Original". THEN, the image would stay in portrait mode...

Weird, right???

Help!!! O.o
